WALTHAM, Mass. – September 9, 2019 – The Massachusetts Association of Realtors® (MAR) announced recently that Carolyn Chodat, broker/owner at Classic Properties Realtors® in Medway, has been named recipient of the Milton H. Shaw Distinguished Service Award for 2019. The award was presented at MAR’s Professional Awards Reception, which was held in September at the MGM Springfield in Springfield, Mass.
First awarded in 1984, the Milton H. Shaw Distinguished Service Award recognizes and regards distinguished voluntary service to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors® over a period of years of continued participation in its activities, and loyalty to its purpose. The award is named in honor of former Realtor® and MAR Executive Vice President Milton H. Shaw.
“Carolyn Chodat exemplifies exactly the kind of Realtor® this award was created to honor,” said 2019 MAR President Anne Meczywor, broker/associate at Roberts & Associates Realty Inc. In Lenox. “She’s been a dedicated volunteer for years and years and has worked tirelessly at all three levels of the organization for the good of our members, never seeking the spotlight. She truly is an example for all of us.”
A Realtor® since 1983, Chodat is currently a member of the MAR Board of Directors and the Professional Standards Committee. She has served on numerous committees over the years including: Audit, Bylaws, Communications & Technology, Education & Events, Finance, Forms Content, Grievance and Professional Standards to name a few. Her service has also included two terms on the MAR Executive Committee as a Focus Area Vice President. In 2002, Chodat was named the MAR Realtor® of the Year.
In 2009, Chodat was the state president of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Certified Residential Specialists (CRS). On the local level, she is a director of the Greater Boston Association of Realtors® and has volunteered and chaired several committees there. Chodat is also a past president of the Worcester Area Association of Realtors®. She has the distinction of being named not only the Greater Boston Realtor® of the Year in 1998, but also the Worcester Area Association’s Realtor® of the Year in 2002.
In 2018, Chodat was presented with the Hickey Distinguished Service Award from the Greater Boston Association of Realtors®.
At the national level, Chodat is currently serving her 11th term on the Multiple Listing and Policies Committee. She has also served on the Professional Standards and Housing Needs Committees.
Chodat, also currently serves on the Board of Directors of MLS Property Information Network Inc., a Realtor® broker-owned multiple listing service database which comprises the majority of Massachusetts real estate listings. Chodat also served on the original task force of the development of the Broker-Owned MLS corporation and was elected Chairman of MLS Property Information Corporation in its inception in 1999.
